Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal Site - Find a freedom of information request

Please provide a copy of the invitation extended by Lincolnshire County Council to Nuclear Waste Services or Radioactive Waste Management asking about the potential for a GDF to be located at the Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal Site and surrounding area.

Lincolnshire County Council (the Council) does not hold the information requested because the Council did not send a letter to invite Nuclear Waste Services or Radioactive Waste Management to explore Theddlethorpe as a potential site for a geological disposal facility.

Instead, the following took place: ·

There was an initial telephone conversation involving Cllr Poll and Andy Gutherson (Executive Director of Place) with Radioactive Waste Management.

· A meeting then took place on 10 March 2020 between senior members of Radioactive Waste Management's Community Engagement and Siting team and Cllr Poll, Cllr McNally and Andy Gutherson. This was a standard introductory briefing about the GDF programme.

· Karen Wheeler, the Chief Executive Officer of Radioactive Waste Management, wrote to the Council on 18th August 2021 asking for the council to consider exploring Lincolnshire as the potential location of a geological disposal facility. Please find attached a copy of this letter.

· Cllr Martin Hill, Leader of the Council, wrote to Radioactive Waste Management on 24th August 2021 saying that the Council would be keen to understand more about geological disposal facilities and about whether one would be appropriate for Lincolnshire but that this would require a decision by The Executive. Please find attached a copy of this letter.

· A paper was then taken to The Executive of the Council in November 2021 which was approved. The paper and its subsequent decision made it clear that the Council was committing to exploring the issue further, not to supporting a geological disposal facility.
