- Outcomes
-
Childnet’s ‘connect with respect’ resource contains downloadable stories designed to help children aged 7 to 11 years old with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to keep safe online.
Learning outcomes for the stories are outlined below:
Story one:
- to learn about in-app purchasing
- to understand that items bought within games can cost real money
- to understand the importance of getting permission before using someone else’s password online
Story two:
- to explore how unkind gaming behaviour can make people feel
- to understand what to do after receiving a mean message online
- Service Description
-
The ‘connect with respect’ resource has been developed through a series of focus groups with educators and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
The downloadable stories (in PowerPoint presentation format) can be accessed online, along with the accompanying ‘educator guidance’ pdf, which contains resource instructions, warm up exercises and follow up activities. Each story includes a series of topic related questions to be used before and after the resolution.
Both presentations are editable, so that educators can adjust the contents to suit the needs of their learners and work through the activities at their own pace.
The resource focuses on two of the most talked about online safety concerns: in-app purchasing and unkind messaging.
