Young people’s gambling harm prevention workshop for year 6 students - Stay Safe Partnership

Outcomes

Through this session, young people will:

  • gain knowledge and awareness in order to make informed choices about gambling
  • understand the impact of harmful gambling, and recognise the signs of gambling-related harm in themselves or others
  • build their critical thinking skills and digital resilience
  • know where and how to access support if they are experiencing gambling-related harm

The programme has delivered gambling awareness sessions directly to over 75,000 young people across the UK (since April 2020) and trained over 35,000 professionals who work with and support young people.

Young people report an increase in their knowledge of making safer choices in relation to gambling from below 70% pre-session to over 95% post-session.

Service Description

One-hour gambling awareness workshops for young people

An interactive session for young people to talk about their experiences of gambling and gaming in a non-judgemental space. By the end of the session year 6 students will be equipped with the latest knowledge, and will feel empowered to make safer, informed decisions about gambling and gaming.

The session can be run in a classroom or adapted for an assembly, and covers the following:
  • What is gambling?
  • Why do people choose to gamble?
  • When does gambling cause harm?
  • Where can I go for advice and support?
The sessions mirror what is recommended in PSHE guidance for education around gambling and gaming harms.
