Staff Days Lost due to Testing Positive for Coronavirus - Find a freedom of information request

Request

I would like to know how many staff days were lost from 1 January, 2020 to 31 December, 2020, due to testing positive for Coronavirus. I would like this information in relation to all staff members, broken down by department.

The attached data is based on the period 1 January - December 2020 by Directorate and Service Area Level for all of those that were recorded as 'pandemic diagnosed'. To put this into context:

  • For the calendar year 2020 the council had approximately 4036.27 full-time employees.
  • There are 1,025,213.66 available working days in the year.
  • The 674 working days lost due to Covid works out at 0.07% of working days lost or the equivalent of 2.65 FTE.
  • If we look at the areas that have the most covid days lost these are in frontline areas such as hospital based social worker teams or Fire, both of which are not able to work from home (WFH).
  • As most of the council workforce were WFH for most of last year this could/would have had a twofold impact on the number of covid absences: WFH reduced the likelihood of getting Covid and while some people may have tested positive, they were able to continue to WFH.
