I am the National Fire Advisor for Historic England endeavouring to protect our Heritage Built Environment from fire. Historic England (HE) (officially the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England) is an executive non-departmental public body of the British Government sponsored by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
Last year I sent you a request to your FRS to confirm the number of incidents that have occurred within your authority to the heritage-built environment for 2020.
I would respectively request similar data for 2021.
We are still losing heritage buildings at an alarming rate with the loss to the nation currently unknown as there are currently no statistics produced detailing the number of fires of where, when or how they are occurring.
1.The information required is the date and address together with most probable cause if known, along with any fatalities, rescues and casualties where incidents have occurred in the following type of premises;
* HE Listed Grade I, II* or II
* Conservation area
* Thatch
* Mill
* Place of worship
2.I am also interested in chimney fires within dwellings and wildfires that have occurred on World Heritage Sites/National Parks.
The information can be returned in an electronic format or paper. To assist, I have attached an incomplete spread sheet of known incidents that have occurred within your area, along with a word document of incidents where I have been unable to determine if they are in the required category due to lack of information. I would appreciate confirmation of these incidents.

This table is derived from our Operational Risk Heritage premises register, in 2021 only 4 premises had fire incidents occur on the premises. In all four of these incidents the listed buildings were not affected by the fire. The Operational Risk Heritage register are buildings known to LFR where there could be a risk to our firefighters if a fire occurred there, ie access, layouts, building materials etc.
