Children in Unregulated Accommodation - Find a freedom of information request

Request

The following request concerns looked after children and young people under the age of 18 who have been placed in unregulated accommodation for any period of time during the past five years.

1. Please could you provide the numbers of children placed in unregulated settings broken down on a calendar year basis for each of the past five years?

2. For each of these years, could the numbers be further broken down according to how many were in independent living (for example flat lodgings/B and B or with friends) and how many were in semi-independent living settings not subject to children's homes regulations?

Decision

1. Below are the figures for young people aged 16-18 years placed (i.e. the placement was made in that year not the number of placement in situ) in unregulated supported accommodation broken down by calendar year (January - December) for the past 5 years

2016 188
2017 169
2018 100
2019 107
2020 87

2.

a. None recorded.

b. All of the figures provided in the answer to Question 1 are placements that made with semi-independent supported accommodation providers not subject to children's homes regulations for young people/Looked After Children aged 16-18 years. However, it must be noted that the vast majority of these placement are within Lincolnshire County Council's supported Young people's housing model, not external providers.
