Potholes Reported and Filled 2015-2019 - Find a freedom of information request

Request

I would like to request the following data:

1. The number of potholes reported to the Council.

2. The number of potholes filled in by the Council.

I wish to receive this data, with a year-end of 31 December, for a five-year period, ending with data for 2019. If this is too large a request, I wish to have data for the last three years, or simply for 2019.

Decision

In Lincolnshire, all highways faults are logged as enquiries which include potholes. So whilst Lincolnshire County Council cannot provide information on how many potholes have been reported we can provide details on how many enquiries regarding potholes have been reported.

There are also a number of caveats that need to be made due to the manner in which potholes are reported and dealt with. For example, a member of the public may report a number of potholes on one enquiry, whereas someone else may raise an enquiry for each individual pothole. Additionally, a single pothole maybe reported a number of times by different people before it is fixed.

These figures below are for calendar years, not financial years, as requested. Data for Potholes Filled for 2015 January to March was not available so has been omitted.

1. Pothole enquiries reported to the council:

  • 2015: 6881
  • 2016: 9471
  • 2017: 9333
  • 2018: 26015
  • 2019: 11221

2. Potholes filled:

  • 2016: 105300
  • 2017: 87464
  • 2018: 85141
  • 2019: 133171
