The footways in the Gresley Road area have recently been slurry sealed as engineers deemed them suitable for this type of treatment; bearing in mind the condition and that they are approximately twenty years old.
Slurry seal is a preventative maintenance treatment that seals the existing footway preventing water getting in. Not only does this extend the life of the existing footway, but also when carried out at the correct time, means that costly excavation and renewal treatments are not required; therefore less disruption to the public and cost to the authority. It's similar to when homeowners paint there wooden window frames to protect them from the weather, so they don't have to replace them.
It’s a treatment that’s used widely across the County on similar footways and is a vital tool in the County Councils asset management strategy
