Archive Conditions and Refurbishment - Find a freedom of information request

Request

I was wondering if you would be able to answer some questions regarding the development of the archive.

1. Has the archive, since it's foundation in 1948, seen any major changes in its structure or been refurbished and improved?

2. Regarding the staff decrease in 2014, I was wondering whether the changes in staff were enforced by the council or whether the archive made the changes themselves?

3. The archive, when compared to many other archives, has seen no changes to their opening hours and I was wondering, have the numbers of archives considered ever to be reduced at any point and if so, why were they not?

Decision

1.The original three storey brick building with double slate roof has been extended by the addition of a steel portal frame building clad with steel profile sheets. This connects to the two storey brick building with a flat roof, built in 1991. LCC acquired the property on 13/03/1986. It was appropriated from LCC`s Property Management Committee to Leisure & Recreation Committee on 21/03/1988.

2. Any changes to the archive staffing structures is on the recommendation on relevant service managers at the time.

3. With the exception of the current reduction in opening hours due to covid-19, there has been no change to the normal opening hours of the archive. Any proposed changes would take into account staff capacity and customer need.
