Home to School Transport - Find a freedom of information request

Request

1. I see that home to school transport in some cases appears in my opinion high.

I would like to ask:

2. Are these trips only for one child?

3. Are these journeys regularly reviewed?

4. Is there any expectation that a parent is asked to contribute?

Decision

1. Please note that Transport Services Group (TSG) arrange transport for over 19,000 pupils in the morning and afternoon to learning establishments. TSG also manage the transport of adult and children Social Care passengers to a number of establishments. Given the volume of the operation; the length of routes, passengers, costs, sites, entitlement criteria and aggregated spend are significant.

2. TSG will always combine routes wherever possible to minimise additional routes & mileage. Lone transport is rare and only in place where a passenger's specific needs require it or the journey does not combine with another cost effectively.

3. Yes, all routes and establishments are reviewed when additional pupils require transport, when contracts come to an end or are terminated, when passengers are removed from contracts and for the start of the term in September most schools will have a review each year.

4. Yes, there is a contribution towards transport for post-16 transport and concessionary transport. The full policies are available at:
