Road safety awareness lessons - EduLincs

Primary

• year 1 – basic road safety skills: a fun and practical classroom and playground workshop to introduce basic road safety awareness skills to pupils. This session can be provided as a school or teacher-led presentation if required
• year 2 – pedestrian training: a practical introduction to pedestrian safety, using suitable risk-assessed local routes
• year 3 - in-car safety: a 40 to 50 minute classroom workshop exploring different aspects of safety on car journeys
• year 4 - road safety walk: an enhanced pedestrian experience in preparation for independent journeys. Where schools have received road safety walks in year 6 and wish to continue this provision, please discuss with provider when organising booking
• year 4 – risky or safe? School and teacher-led alternative to road safety walk
• year 5 – cycle helmets: a visual demonstration and practical activity on the importance of wearing a helmet - time required 30 to 40 minutes
• year 5 or 6 - junior road safety officer (JRSO): an ongoing peer-led scheme to promote road safety within your school community throughout the year
• year 6 – stepping up: this teacher-led package provides year 6 pupils the opportunity discuss and prepare for their future journeys to and from secondary school

Secondary

Five individual sessions aimed at increasing student knowledge and skills to stay safer on the roads. Each of the topics below is a stand-alone session, so you can choose which one(s) you require. Each can be slightly adapted, depending on the area of focus required and the needs of the school.

Road traffic collision investigation (RTCI), years 9 and 10

An immersive and engaging workshop where students problem solve and investigate pedestrian behaviours that can increase risk of injury. Option of teacher-led resource to be provided in the event that the provider has no presenter availability.

Young passenger awareness, year 11

An interactive session on taking and making safer decisions to stay safer whilst inside a vehicle, promoting strategy planning to avoid risky situations.

Preparing to drive, years 12 and 13

This lesson provides practical information such as:

• applying for a provisional licence
• taking the theory test
• insuring a vehicle

The session is designed to support students at the start of their driving career to assist in becoming responsible, safe and legal drivers. Students are encouraged to be safe drivers through practical advice and discussion of the Fatal Four.

An engaging and immersive theatre experience to enhance safety and raise awareness of the immediate and long-term consequences associated with poor road user behaviour and decision making.

All sessions are delivered face-to-face, to both class groups and/or whole year groups, dependent on the session. 

Access to internet and Microsoft PowerPoint required for presentation purposes.

• primary - all workshops are provided free of charge.
• secondary - sessions are provided free of charge unless stated otherwise
• 2Fast2Soon - charged at £325 per session. A reduction is available for two consecutive sessions (£550)
