Attending a citizenship ceremony
Once you have received your letter from the Home Office inviting you to a citizenship ceremony, you can book to attend either a private appointment or a group ceremony. This marks the final step on your journey to becoming a British Citizen.
When attending a citizenship ceremony, you must bring the following:
- your invitation letter or email from the Home Office
- photograph ID
During the ceremony, you will swear or affirm an oath of allegiance to the Crown and pledge to uphold UK values and laws.
You will also receive a Certificate of Naturalisation and a welcome pack.

Private citizenship appointments
Private citizenship appointments are held at Lincoln Registration Office.
We offer private citizenship appointments for those who prefer to be seen individually.
A private citizenship appointment is a personal, more informal way of obtaining your citizenship and allows you to choose a more convenient time and date.
The appointment will last approximately 20 minutes, and if you are attending alone, you may bring up to two friends or family members.
The fee is £80 per adult for an appointment from Monday to Friday.
There is no fee for children under 18 years.
Payment will be taken at the point of booking.
Group citizenship ceremony
We hold our group citizenship ceremonies in the Bainbridge Suite at Lincoln Registration Office.
The ceremonies are held on fixed dates, and you can bring up to two guests.
On our fixed dates you can choose to attend our morning or afternoon ceremony, at either 11am or 1.30pm.
Group ceremonies take approximately 30 minutes. However, please allow 1 hour and 30 minutes for the registration procedure and the ceremony.
We do not charge fees if you attend a group ceremony on pre-arranged days because your naturalisation application fee covers this cost.
Making a booking request
You must have received your invitation letter from the Home Office before you can book a citizenship ceremony.
You must book your citizenship ceremony within three months of receiving your invitation from the Home Office.
If you have already filled out the booking request form, please do not try to do so again. We will review your request and get back to you as soon as possible.
